MDB Code Mapping

Most modern vending machines have the ability to relay data regarding transactions back to your card reader company. However, when it comes to machines depicting which "selection" or item was vended DEX capable machines only relay the MDB code associated with each vend.

MDB Mapping

It is frustrating to determine which item was sold based on some weird code (see below), and that is where Vendesk begins to shine just a bit brighter. We have mapped out 92 of the most popular and modern vending machines and have matched up each MDB code with it's respective "selection", all you have to do is select the proper machine model when setting up your machines.

By telling Vendesk which machine you have, once we start picking up telelmetry transactions, we will be able to determine which MDB code was vended, therefore telling us which column was vended and if you have Planograms setup, which specific product was vended.

Failsafe

Sometimes codes are tricky. We aim for 100% accuracy with everything we do, however sometimes the codes we recieve can be different than what we have in our mapping (this is NOT typically the case). For such an occasion we allow each company to create their own "machine mapping". Simple navigate to Machine Models in Vendesk and create a new machine and manually enter the MDB codes and corresponding selection. Then back in your (Machines)[https://vendesk.online/admin/machines] update the Machine Model to the one you just created.

Manually Fetching MDB Codes

In order for the failsafe to work you need to gather the MDB Codes for your own machine.

You will need to physically create a transaction for each of the selections in your machine. While at your machine, create a single transaction for every single selection in your machine. Once you return to your dashboard you can look through each transaction and see the MDB code for each selection. MDB Codes look like the following: text 0001, 00F2, 00BD, etc...

Note

For Cantaloupe/Greenlite please make sure you have setup your transport prior to following these steps.

Creating Your Own Machine Model in Vendesk

  1. Under Settings in Vendesk, click Machine Models
  2. Then click the Create Machine Model button at the top of the page.
  3. Enter a name for the new machine and click Create.
  4. Click New column map
  5. Enter the Column or Selection and then the corresponding MDB Code.
  6. Do this for each of the selections/MDB Codes in your machine.
  7. Go back to your Machines in Vendesk and select the machine you need to now apply this mapping to.
  8. In the Machine Model dropdown you should now see your newly created mapping. Select it and Save changes.

Once the planograms are setup for your machine and mapped to products you will start to really enjoy the benefits of Vendesk, see transactions come in real time and know which products are selling and calculate your NET.

MDB Overrides

Inside each Machine in Vendesk is a Planograms tab. This is where you enter the product for each section, vend price etc. Additionally you may specify an MDB code for each selection here. This will override any machine model selection that you may have chosen for your machine. When a transaction is sent to Vendesk from your card reader, Vendesk will first look to see if there is a selection for the given MDB Code on the machine, if so it will ignore any Machine Model selected.
